So- busy week since we signed both kids up for swimming lessons. Which means dinner must be on the table by 4:15 so we can scarf it down, change into swim suits, jump in the car and be on the pool deck by 5:10. We have managed to do this 3 times already, and I must say I feel pretty darn impressed with myself- especially since dinner was actually hot meals and not McDonalds thus far :) However- the swimming has not gone so well.
Day 1: Elliot screams, cries and runs from his teacher- for 30 minutes. Abbie frowns at the pool, and immediately starts crying when her little toe touches the water.
Day 2: Elliot is promised chocolate ice cream with marshmallow topping if he listens to his teacher and stays with his class. He looks worried, but takes her hand and heads to the pool. 2 minutes later he starts wailing. The teacher throws him on her back, where he clings and cries for the next 28 minutes. Abbie again looks like I must be kidding if I think she is going to ever like water, and cries for her allotted 30 minutes.
Day 3: After deciding I am a horrible parent, and telling Aaron to find a family counselor who specializes in separation anxiety- we again proceed to the pool. Elliot is promised ice cream again- but I made sure to stipulate- listening and no crying. He ventured off with his teacher, glanced at dad a few times- and proceeded to swim, put his face in the water, blow bubbles and jump in. Abbie frowned, babbled some protests, but let me swim her around and even tasted the water. Yea!
We will see what tomorrow brings!

Oh my soul you crack me up. I am glad they are getting used to it though and doing so well!

That sounds like pretty good progress in just three days! Elliot will probably be begging to go to the pool within a week or so, and Abbie will be having a lot of fun, too. Hang in there, and good luck!

The one challenge we have not had so far is getting Finn to love the pool. However, he was swimming with his dad, so I'm sure if we handed him to a stranger, we'd hear the screams for days :)
